Lightsynq was a Boston-based startup founded in 2022 that developed advanced photonic quantum solutions including quantum light sources, photonic integrated circuits, and quantum networking components to enable scalable photonic quantum computing and quantum communication systems for applications requiring room-temperature operation and network connectivity. In June 2025, IonQ acquired Lightsynq Technologies to advance quantum computing and networking scalability, bringing over 20 patents to IonQ's portfolio. The acquisition positioned IonQ to strengthen its photonic interconnect capabilities and quantum memory technologies, integrating Lightsynq's expertise in photonic quantum systems with IonQ's trapped-ion quantum computing platform to enable more scalable quantum architectures.
