About

Qubitcore is a Yokohama-based quantum computing startup founded in July 2024 as a spinoff from OIST (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology). The company develops distributed quantum computing systems using ion trap technology with photonic interconnects. Led by CEO Ryuta Watanuki and CSO Prof. Takahashi, Qubitcore raised pre-seed funding in January 2025 to advance Japan's first trapped ion quantum computer initiative. The company's roadmap includes a testbed system by 2028, 1,000-qubit prototype by 2029, and commercial deployment by 2030. Qubitcore's R&D center is located at OIST Okinawa, leveraging the institute's world-class research facilities.

2025 Developments: Qubitcore secured pre-seed funding and continues development of its distributed ion trap quantum computing architecture in 2025, representing Japan's entry into the trapped ion quantum computing sector.
